Past President General Bruce Laubach Attends Battle of Green Spring Commemoration
On July 5th, Bruce Laubach represented the DSDI at the SAR Commemoration of the Battle of Green Spring. This battle took place near Jamestown on July 6, 1781. This was a failed attempt by Cornwallis to capture Lafayette. It was during this battle and the skirmish at Spencer’s Ordinary (June 26, 1781) that General Wayne Anthony acquired the nickname “Mad Wayne” because of his bold attacks with his cavalry. The commemoration was held at the Church on the Main, the first Episcopal church built outside of Jamestown. This site is also the permanent resting place for the unknown patriot soldier of the Battle of Green Spring.
Bruce hopes everyone will plan to come to the Fall meeting in 2026. We could organize a tour of some of the more interesting and obscure historical sites in the area.
