Remembering a DSDI Member on the Anniversary of the Sinking of the Titanic
If your social media feed is anything like mine on this date, it is full of stories about the ill-fated Titanic, which tragically sunk in the Atlantic on April 14, 1912, killing approximately 1,500 people. It may surprise you to learn that one of those that died, Charles Duane Williams, was a DSDI member. If you have ever attended a DSDI meeting, you may have noticed that we read his name out loud after the signers’ roll call at every meeting. This is due to a resolution that was passed by the board in 1912 after hearing of his death. The board wanted to ensure his courage and sacrifice was always remembered because he perished while saving the lives of others. You can read more about Charles Duane Williams and the resolution here.
